A schematic of what is purported to be the display for the iPhone 14 Pro series has surfaced online, giving us a glimpse of the true size of the pill-shaped and circular cutout design expected to debut on high-end iPhones in 2022 in place of the notch.

The image first appeared on Twitter and was later shared by Apple leaker Jon Prosser, who claims to be able to independently confirm that the schematic is legit and depicts the possible dimensions of the pill-shaped and punched cutouts. The schematic matches rumors that Apple plans to replace the cutout on the high-end iPhone 14 model with a punch and pill-shaped cutout.
While the schematic matches the fundamentals of recent iPhone 14 Pro display rumors that hint at the end of the notch, more minor details are shared by the often accurate display analyst Ross Young.
Young has shared accurate information in the past, as he shared the front panel of the iPhone 14 Pro last month, showing a significantly smaller hole and pill-shaped cutout than depicted in the schematic. In addition, Young’s information suggests that the pill-shaped cutout will be centered with the display, unlike the schematic.
In a related tweet, Young said that the punch hole and pill-shaped cutout will appear for the first time in all models of the 2023 iPhone lineup, as they are only expected to appear on the top-end iPhone 14 model. The two lower-end iPhone 14 models will feature notches.
Indications are that the 2023 iPhone lineup will continue to come with some form of display obstacle for the TrueDepth camera system, which will disappoint customers who were hoping for an off-screen system next year. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said that Apple plans to put Face ID under the display starting in 2023, meaning a full-screen design with no notches or pill-shaped and perforated cutouts.
The iPhone 14 lineup will include four models, consisting of two 6.1-inch and two 6.7-inch sizes. With the exception of the high-end model with the pill-shaped and perforated design, the entire lineup is tipped to receive a major redesign, including a thinner camera bump, round volume buttons, and a new speaker grille reminiscent of the iPhone 4.
