Gadget skin maker Dbrand has announced that its line of sticky skins for smartphones and laptops are now available for sale again, this time as permanent fixtures in its online store. The vegetable-tanned leather skins, which were a limited edition when they were first introduced in December, are now being relaunched due to their popularity. The 3M rubber leathers sell for about $34.95 for smartphones and $69.95 for laptops in black, brown and tan colorways for more than 100 products, including the new Samsung Galaxy S22, iPhones, MacBooks, Google Pixels and gaming consoles.
Dbrand says these leather skins are made of full-grain cowhide, and they’re less than 0.5 millimeters thick — though it will feel a little thicker than your average rubber. The skins were developed in collaboration with 3M as a custom adhesive solution, allowing for bubble-free application and adhesive-free removal. While applying the skins isn’t always easy, Dbrand has a new installation tutorial video which also covers how to care for the leather and speed up the copper greening process.
For those of you who like to keep your phone in a case, you can also purchase leather skins for Dbrand’s Grip Case if you want to put leather accents on the back. If that’s not enough for you, Dbrand also sells extras and weird stuff like leather balms, leather keychains, and even leather cubes or pyramids.
With Apple’s recent leather cases disappointing many and the relatively sparse selection of quality leather cases for other devices, Dbrand’s skins may be the next best thing. But if you’re looking for protection, not a little extra grip and style points, you’ll want to go with a case.
